What is Sports Therapy?

Sports therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the prevention of injury and the rehabilitation of the patient back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability.

It utilises the principles of sport and exercise sciences incorporating physiological and pathological processes to prepare the participant for training, competition and where applicable, work.

Types of Injuries & Common Injuries

Injuries are commonly caused by overuse, a direct impact or the application of force that is greater than the body part can structurally withstand.

An acute injury is one that occurs as a direct result of a sudden event, such as a sprained ankle caused by falling awkwardly.

A chronic injury is one that is caused by overusing the same muscle group or joint, such as tennis elbow.

Whether your injury is acute or chronic, if the pain persists, you should seek advice, because you could be hurt more severely than you realise.

There are hundreds of different types of injuries that can occur in the human body; however certain body parts tend to be more prone to damage than others. Some of the most common injuries include:
